Iran announces planned signing of Hormuz Strait navigation agreement
The foreign ministers of Arab states plan to meet on Monday in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to sign an agreement on a joint Iranian-Omani shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said this in an interview with the Indian TV channel Anadolu Agency reports.
Route through the strait
According to Pezeshkian, the participants in the meeting are also expected to inform the International Maritime Organization about the agreement. He claimed that countries whose territories, he alleged, were used by the United States for attacks on Iran would also take part in the event.
The Iranian president also said that Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz after the United States ends its blockade and attacks. He added that the country is not entirely dependent on sea routes.

Meeting of eight states
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on September 11 that Oman would host a regional ministerial meeting involving eight states bordering the gulf. According to him, the sides will discuss regional issues and the results of Iranian-Omani consultations on identifying safe routes for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei stated that Iran is working on the security of navigation in the waterway but, in his assessment, cannot guarantee the safety of vessels amid a U.S. naval blockade and military intervention. At the same time, there was no immediate confirmation of the planned meeting from Oman.
Earlier, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said that an agreement with Oman on a new corridor through the strait would be signed within a few days. According to him, the entrance and exit of the proposed corridor would be under Iran's control.
