Ireland will support Ukraine's European integration during its presidency of the Council of the EU

During its presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ireland will make every effort to advance the process of EU enlargement and Ukraine’s European integration.

This was stated by Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Defense Helen McEntee at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga in Kyiv.

“We see how our own membership in the EU has completely transformed our country economically, culturally, in terms of values, and in terms of security. That is why we want to see other countries benefit in the same way. And this applies to Ukraine—not only because of the very difficult circumstances, but also in a broader sense, we view this as very positive progress,” she noted.

Makenti emphasized that Dublin aims to achieve maximum progress in Ukraine’s European integration process during its presidency.

“It is clear that we need to work on all fronts and cooperate closely with the government to ensure that all requirements are met, and also, in a broader sense, to ensure that we, as the European Union, are ready to achieve this progress,” the minister explained.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico rejected criticism from the European Commission regarding diesel fuel prices. He also stated that Slovakia does not support the idea of Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU and called for pressure on Kyiv regarding the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Additionally, Fico did not sign the European Council’s conclusions on Ukraine due to the lack of mention of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Fico is threatening Ukraine with measures in response to the suspension of oil transit from Russia.
