Isamaa will support Ulle Madise in the Estonian presidential election
The Estonian Isamaa party will support Justice Minister Ulle Madise’s candidacy in the presidential election. This was announced by party chairman Urmas Reinsalu, according to ERR News.
According to Reinsalu, the Isamaa parliamentary caucus held a substantive discussion with Madise on Monday, and she made a positive impression on its members. The Isamaa caucus in the Riigikogu consists of eight members of parliament.
On Monday morning, Madise officially announced that she would run for the office of President of Estonia. She stated that the president’s constitutional duty is to protect what makes Estonia Estonia.

A few hours before Isamaa’s announcement, it became known that the Estonian Center Party would support the candidacy of Tiit Land. Reinsalu also thanked Reserve Major Riho Juhtegi, Maive Rute, and Indrek Laul, and mentioned the university rectors who nominated Land.
The Riigikogu will convene to elect the president on September 2. To nominate a candidate, support from at least one-fifth of the parliament—that is, no fewer than 21 members—is required. Nominations will be accepted from August 21 to 24. If necessary, the second and third rounds of voting will take place on September 3.
