Israel to hold large-scale military drill near Jordan border — Anadolu Agency
Israel will begin large-scale military exercises on Monday in Eilat on the Red Sea and the Arava Valley along the border with Jordan. During the maneuvers, troops will rehearse a scenario involving a surprise attack, Anadolu Agency reports.
Exercise scenarios
The exercises will be led by the Israeli army’s 80th Division. The military warned that, starting Sunday, the area will see noticeably increased movement of security forces, aircraft and naval vessels.
Units will train to respond to various scenarios, including a surprise attack and incursions into Israeli territory by air, sea and land. The duration of the exercises was not specified, with the military saying they would take place over the coming days.

Protection of border areas
According to the army, the purpose of the maneuvers is to test the defense of Israeli communities near the Jordanian border and the Eilat area, improve troop readiness and use air and maritime capabilities to strengthen the region’s protection.
The army said the exercises are part of an ongoing process of strengthening readiness, enhancing capabilities and incorporating lessons from combat operations and security incidents of recent years. A week earlier, Israeli forces held exercises in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights focused on readiness for sudden and complex attacks.
Warnings about possible incursions across Israel’s eastern border have intensified in recent months. In June, Israeli military sources reported what they described as a foiled attempt to infiltrate the Eilat hotel area by sea. According to the private Israeli television channel Channel 15, naval forces spotted a person on a jet ski approaching the hotel area from the direction of the Jordanian border. Jordan did not comment on the Israeli version of the incident at the time.
