Israel marks attack anniversary with no hostages in Gaza — The Hindu
In Israel, October 7 marks the third anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attack, which became the deadliest day in the country’s history. It is the first such anniversary without Israeli hostages being held in the Gaza Strip: both the living and the dead were exchanged for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. The remains of the last Israeli hostage were found in January.
The October 7 attack
During the attack, militants killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza, Reuters reported in an article published by The Hindu. The attack prompted an Israeli military operation that destroyed a significant part of the Gaza Strip.

Losses in Gaza
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 74,000 people have been killed in the enclave as a result of Israeli bombardments and ground operations. A ceasefire agreed a year ago and intended to permanently stop the war is in effect in Gaza, but conditions in the enclave remain difficult.
Near Kibbutz Nahal Oz in southern Israel, Israeli military personnel took part in a memorial ceremony marking the third anniversary of the attack.
