Callas Revealed Details of the 21st Round of EU Sanctions Against Russia
EU ambassadors have agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia—the aggressor state. It imposes broad restrictions on Russia’s financial system, energy sector, and military-industrial complex. The package is expected to be approved in the afternoon of July 23 via a written procedure.
Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated on social media platform X that the restrictions target the financial resources Russia uses to continue the war. “We are hitting Putin where it ‘hurts’ the most—by cutting off the financial lifelines he relies on to continue the war,” she wrote.
According to Kallas, 218 individuals will be added to the sanctions list. She also reported that the package covers more than a hundred banks and cryptocurrency operators, more than 40 ships in the shadow fleet, and several oil refineries in Russia and Belarus.
Kallas noted that the list also includes more than 50 companies in the military-industrial complex and key entities involved in the production of Russian long-range drones. She added that the EU is already working on the next round of sanctions and must be prepared to respond to any further escalation by Russia.
