German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed his unwavering support for Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised that his government would do everything possible to maintain support for Ukraine in its fight against aggression and would not back down from this position even by a centimeter.

According to the head of the German government, helping Ukraine preserve peace and freedom is a historic duty, and any success by Russia would have unpredictable and unprecedented consequences for the entire continent, including Germany.

During his speech at the European Arctic Summit in Finland, Merz noted that Germany is also prepared to defend its own infrastructure and the territorial integrity of NATO and EU countries against hybrid attacks by Russia, for which changes will be made to security legislation. In addition, the German chancellor emphasized the need to create a joint fleet of icebreakers for the northern countries and the entire European Union amid the growing threat to peace.

This was reported by the news agency “Ukrinform.”

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented on the results of the election in Saxony-Anhalt, in which the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) achieved significant success. The CDU representative called the situation in the country historically significant.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz canceled a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump that had been scheduled for September 9. This happened a few hours after Trump publicly congratulated the far-right “Alternative for Germany” on its success in the regional elections.
