Karbo rejects category of Bawumia candidates in NPP elections — MyJoyOnline
In Kumasi, Ghana, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organising Committee Chairman Anthony Karbo stated that there cannot be a separate category of candidates associated with the party’s presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, in the elections for the party’s national leadership.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Karbo dismissed suggestions that the October 3 vote in Kumasi could produce a slate of contenders aligned with Bawumia. According to him, the party has already chosen its presidential candidate, so the election of national officers should be separated from that issue.
Criteria for delegates
Karbo, speaking to Citi FM ahead of the elections, stressed that delegates should assess contenders based on their competence and ability to organize the party’s work, rather than their closeness to the presidential candidate. He noted that the elected officers must strengthen the NPP and help it prepare for the 2028 general elections.

According to the official, participants in the vote will elect not people close to a particular individual, but effective party officials capable of carrying out the organization’s tasks.
Elections in Kumasi
The NPP plans to hold its national leadership elections on October 3 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Delegates will elect, among others, the party’s national chairman, general secretary, national organizer, as well as leaders of the women’s and youth wings.
The party has cleared 47 contenders to compete for nine national positions. At the same time, the number of participants in the race changed after some contenders withdrew their candidacies.
