The AfD Rejects the Idea of Germany Leaving the Eurozone

The far-right “Alternative for Germany” party no longer insists on the country’s exit from the eurozone. In an internal strategic document, the party proposes instead to reform the EU and the monetary union.

In particular, the AfD advocates for member states to take greater responsibility for their own debts and for limiting the European Central Bank’s ability to intervene in financial processes.

The party also proposes transforming the European Union into a “union of sovereign nations,” focusing its work on the internal market, border protection, security, and specific technological projects.

Other proposals include national exceptions in migration, social, and financial policies, as well as the abolition of direct elections to the European Parliament. They propose that members of the European Parliament be appointed by national parliaments.
