In Russia, there are proposals to reduce the number of math, physics, and chemistry classes

Valery Fadeev, head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, proposed reducing school curricula in mathematics, physics, and chemistry by 20–30 percent.

He stated that the courses are allegedly “overloaded with unnecessary information” and that the curricula for all subjects should be reviewed. Fadeev also advocated for the use of time-tested textbooks, specifically Andrei Kiselev’s mathematics textbook, which was written before the 1917 revolution.

In Russia, teaching time for a number of subjects is already being reduced. Starting in 2026, social studies will be taught only in grades 9–11, and the number of foreign language class hours in grades 5–9 has been reduced.

At the same time, Russian authorities are increasingly directing students after 9th grade toward enrollment in colleges and technical schools. In 2025, 63% of ninth-graders enrolled in the secondary vocational education system, compared to 43% five years earlier.

Earlier, the Kremlin responded to a proposal for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin at the G20.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the G20 summit and, accordingly, regarding a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
