US approves potential arms sales worth $2.27 billion — Anadolu Agency
In the United States, the State Department has approved three potential sales of weapons and related equipment to Egypt, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, with a total estimated value of $2.27 billion. Anadolu Agency reports.

The largest of the three potential sales concerns the UAE. It provides for the supply of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II guidance sections and related equipment, with an estimated value of $1.041 billion.
The UAE requested the purchase of up to 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II guidance sections in a combination of air-to-air and air-to-ground configurations.
Requests from Egypt and Kuwait
For Egypt, the State Department approved a potential sale of Javelin missile systems with an estimated value of $832 million. Cairo requested up to 2,020 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, including 20 missiles under the fly-to-buy program, as well as up to 200 Javelin lightweight command launch units.

Kuwait was approved for a potential sale of Patriot missile repair and return services and related equipment. The estimated value of this package is $400 million.
According to the agency, the US Congress was notified of the proposed sales. The approval came more than seven months after the start of the war with Iran, which, according to Anadolu Agency, began on February 28 with coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iran responded by attacking US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
In June, the United States and Iran signed a framework agreement on immediate steps to restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and settle Iran’s nuclear program. In August, it ceased to be in force without a final agreement being concluded.
