Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II appeared in court in the case against him
A rally in support of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II is taking place near the courthouse in Vagharshapat. Representatives of opposition parties, clergy, and believers are participating.
Upon Garegin II’s arrival at the courthouse, those present greeted him with shouts of “Patriarch!” Members of the Supreme Spiritual Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church, who are also defendants in this case, are participating in the first court hearing alongside him.
The Armenian Prosecutor’s Office accuses Garegin II of obstructing the enforcement of a court ruling. According to the investigation, he allegedly used his authority as head of the Armenian Apostolic Church and chairman of the Supreme Spiritual Council to obstruct the enforcement of a court ruling by issuing an order to defrock Arman Saroyan, the former head of the Masiatots Diocese.
The prosecution filed the indictment against Garegin II and six bishops with the court on July 29.
