IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop to visit Ghana for investment talks

International Finance Corporation (IFC) Managing Director Makhtar Diop will visit Ghana on September 15–17, 2026, where he will hold talks with government and private-sector representatives on increasing private investment and supporting the country’s development priorities. MyJoyOnline reports.

Private capital and jobs

During the visit, the parties will discuss how the World Bank Group can help mobilize private capital, strengthen businesses, expand access to finance and create more quality jobs in Ghana.

Diop is expected to meet with senior officials as well as business representatives, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, academic institutions and figures from the creative sector. The parties will consider opportunities and constraints for private-sector growth, competitiveness and investment.

Priority sectors

Agribusiness, education, youth employment and skills development, access to finance, industrial development, renewable energy and the creative economy will be at the center of the talks. The program also includes high-level meetings and partnership announcements aimed at investment in priority sectors, strengthening local businesses and production value chains.

IFC noted that in Ghana it supports companies, the development of domestic production value chains and access to finance for farmers, entrepreneurs, women-owned businesses and other underserved groups. Recent projects include financing to expand lending in the cocoa production chain and support food security, as well as investments in manufacturing, waste processing, renewable energy and industrial infrastructure.

According to the corporation, its own-account commitments and mobilized financing in Ghana amounted to $670 million in the 2026 fiscal year. By comparison, this figure was $61 million in the 2021 fiscal year. IFC also provides investment and advisory support to improve small and medium-sized enterprises’ access to finance.
