Ghana Christian Council commends GoldBod for responsible gold management
In Ghana, the country’s Christian Council commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its efforts to increase transparency, responsible gold trading and environmental sustainability in mineral resource management. MyJoyOnline reports this following a visit by a council delegation to GoldBod.
Responsible use of resources
Dr. Joyce Lako Steiner, the Christian Council’s Director of Programmes and Advocacy, said that Ghana’s mineral wealth is a gift that should be managed honestly, accountably and responsibly, in the interests of present and future generations.
She stressed the need for cooperation among stakeholders so that the country’s natural resources make a significant contribution to sustainable national development.

GoldBod initiatives
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi spoke about the institution’s mandate under Ghana’s Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), as well as its role in generating foreign exchange inflows and supporting macroeconomic stability.
According to Gyamfi, GoldBod is working to expand local gold processing and jewellery production. He also mentioned the establishment of an international-standard assay laboratory, land reclamation initiatives and the restoration of water systems affected by mining.
During the meeting, representatives of the two institutions exchanged views on Ghana’s gold resources and opportunities for their responsible management. The parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to transparency, environmental protection and sustainable national development.
