Death toll after ferry sinking near Kyrenia rises to 12 — Cyprus Mail
According to Cyprus Mail, the bodies of two more people have been recovered from the wreckage of a ferry that sank off the coast of Kyrenia. Unal Ustel, whom the publication describes as the Turkish Cypriot “prime minister,” announced this on Friday.
The number of confirmed deaths rose to 12 after the bodies were found, Ustel said.
Search for missing people
According to him, operations will continue “24/7” to find and recover 16 people who are still considered missing after the ferry sank.

The vessel sank around noon on Sunday, shortly after departing the new port of Kyrenia. The ferry was heading to the Turkish port of Tasucu.
Identification of the bodies
The recovered bodies are expected to be sent to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu Hospital in northern Nicosia. They are to be identified there. The Cyprus Mail report was published on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:19.
