Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club to be expanded under Al Khail Square project
In Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Abu Dhabi Turf Club are planning a large-scale redevelopment as part of the Al Khail Square project. It is intended to combine equestrian infrastructure with residential, commercial and recreational facilities, The National (UAE) reports.
The Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club was founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, one of the founders of the UAE. It was initially a riding club that later became a venue for Arabian horses. The first races were held there in 1991, and the club marks its 50th anniversary in 2026.
Al Khail Square master plan
The Al Khail Square project was launched in December 2025 by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Presidential Court. According to the publication, the project is designed to develop the emirate’s equestrian sector and integrate it into a modern urban environment.
The site already includes a country club, a golf club, The Arcades and a shopping centre. The master plan provides for modern equestrian facilities, high-end housing, medical facilities, commercial spaces and a new members’ club. They are planned to be connected by pedestrian routes and open green areas.

Al Khail Square’s chief specialist for sports and equestrian affairs, Dale Brown, said the goal of the redevelopment is to create a holistic experience for visitors and develop the complex as an international destination while preserving the club’s historical heritage.
Racing and prize money
Abu Dhabi Turf Club holds races for purebred Arabian and Thoroughbred horses. Brown noted that Meydan Racecourse in Dubai focuses on Thoroughbred horses, while Abu Dhabi aims to develop both disciplines.
Among Turf Club’s biggest events is the UAE President’s Cup, scheduled for December 12, 2026, with total prize money of $2.94 million. The Gold Cup will take place on February 7, 2027, with total prize money of $1.19 million. The previously launched Gold Cup, with prize money of $1 million, has already attracted international participants.
