Israeli President Herzog outlines three priorities for the remainder of his term
Israeli President Isaac Herzog named diplomacy, strengthening the ties of the Jewish people, and overcoming social divisions in Israel as the main priorities for the remainder of his presidential term. Just under two years remain until the end of his seven-year term, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Diplomacy and the Abraham Accords
Herzog said that after October 7, Israel faced lies, attacks, and attempts at delegitimization on the international stage. He plans to continue presenting what he called the truth in diplomatic forums and the media, as well as strengthening Israel's diplomatic ties with partners and friends.
The president also stressed the importance of strengthening the Abraham Accords and expanding the circle of peace in the Middle East. Since the start of his term in July 2021, Herzog has visited about 35 countries, either on state visits or to attend individual events.
These trips included the coronation of Britain's King Charles, the Paris Olympic Games, events marking the 80th anniversary of the mass murder at Babyn Yar in Ukraine, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. The president's state visits included, among others, Azerbaijan and Australia.

Ties with Jewish communities
Herzog intends to visit communities more often that have faced rising antisemitism since October 7. One of his initiatives is Voice of the People, a global council bringing together Jews from Israel, North America, and other parts of the diaspora to shape the future leadership of the Jewish people.
Applications for the second Voice of the People cohort are expected to open soon. Selection will be conducted using an algorithm, and the president called on everyone who cares about the future of the Jewish people to apply.
Dialogue in Israeli society
Herzog's second major initiative, Time to Talk, is intended to foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and mutual respect in Israeli society. The president believes that the principles of negotiation and mutual respect will be tested ahead of the Knesset elections scheduled for October.
Against the backdrop of violence in the West Bank village of Qusra, Herzog condemned the actions of Israeli vigilantes. Local and foreign media reported that masked Israelis attacked Palestinians and set their property on fire. The president called on the government, security services, judicial and law enforcement authorities to take all possible measures to eradicate this phenomenon and hold those responsible accountable.
