In Nigeria, a bus driver returned more than 400,000 naira to a passenger
In Nigeria’s Abia State, commercial bus driver Onyekaachi Ikpendu returned a bag containing more than 400,000 naira in cash and personal belongings to passenger Nkechi John. Premium Times Nigeria reports.
The bag was left on the bus
Nkechi John was travelling from Uzuakoli to the Nnenna Oti bus terminal in Umuahia, but got off at Ubani Market. The woman, who is engaged in small-scale trading, did not notice that she had left her bag containing money and other personal belongings on the bus.
When the passenger realized what had happened, she immediately went to the terminal. The driver was already keeping her bag and all its contents there.

The driver’s and authorities’ reaction
Ikpendu told journalists that he had no intention of keeping the money for himself, as he earns a living through honest work. According to him, he is grateful for what he has and believes that no amount should prompt a person to take what belongs to someone else. The driver also said it was important for him to return the money to its owner because he believes in rewards for honesty and good deeds.
John thanked the driver, as well as Abia State Governor Alex Otti, for building the terminal. She noted that thanks to the terminal, she was able to find transport and recover her property. According to her, the money was intended for trading.
Transport Commissioner Chimezie Ukaegbu praised Ikpendu for his integrity and called his act an example for other residents of the state.
