China Unveiled the H-6N Nuclear Bomber for the First Time
China publicly unveiled for the first time the People's Liberation Army Air Force's H-6N bomber carrying a missile resembling a nuclear delivery vehicle—the JL-1 ballistic missile.
The aircraft, accompanied by twoJ-20 stealth fighters, was featured in a promotional video for the documentary series “Victory,” dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China, produced by CCTV News.
Footage of the H-6N was shown during a segment on joint strikes against a naval task force. According to the publication, the bomber was presented as part of a comprehensive strike system that also includes DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missiles, YJ-20 hypersonic missiles, YJ-12 supersonic missiles, stealth fighters, refueling aircraft, electronic intelligence assets, and a unified command and control system.

It is noted that the missile, suspended beneath the fuselage of the H-6N, resembles the JL-1 in appearance, which was first demonstrated during the Victory Day military parade in September 2025.
The H-6N is the only Chinese bomber capable of carrying such a missile. The aircraft is equipped with an in-flight refueling system and has a specially modified fuselage to accommodate large-caliber weapons.
Analysts note that the introduction of this system could complete the formation of China’s nuclear triad, adding an air-based component to complement its land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles and submarine-launched missiles.
As a reminder, during the Victory Day parade in 2025, China simultaneously demonstrated its land-, sea-, and air-based strategic nuclear forces for the first time.
