Colombia Calls for De-Escalation After Reports of Explosions in Venezuela
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has expressed deep concern over reports of explosions and unusual aerial activity in neighbouring Venezuela, warning of the risk of rising regional tensions. In a public statement, he said Colombia is closely monitoring developments and views the latest reports with serious concern.
Colombia reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. The government stated that it rejects any unilateral military action that could worsen the situation or endanger civilians.
Petro called on all parties to refrain from actions that deepen the confrontation and to prioritise dialogue and diplomatic channels in order to preserve regional peace. The message emphasised restraint and de-escalation as essential to maintaining stability.
