Jerusalem Post columnist recounts anti-Arab insults on Jerusalem tram
A Jerusalem Post columnist described an argument on Jerusalem’s light rail. According to him, one of four teenagers wearing kippahs repeatedly used an insulting expression toward a young Arab female passenger and, after being reprimanded, said that he hated all Arabs.
Argument in the carriage
The columnist wrote that evening he was travelling in the same carriage as four young men who spoke American English, occasionally using Hebrew words. One of them sat next to a young woman wearing a hijab, while the other three stood nearby.
The author said he noticed the conversation when he heard the word “Arab” and laughter. Later, according to his account, the young man sitting beside the passenger repeated an insulting remark in English. The columnist sharply told him to be quiet and show respect.

In response, the teenager, the author claims, asked whom exactly he was supposed to respect and said that he hated all Arabs. The other young men laughed and appeared uncomfortable, and all four later got off at the next stop. The author noted that he did not speak to the woman and does not know how she perceived the situation.
Hospital as an example of coexistence
Earlier that same day, the columnist visited a friend after surgery at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem. According to him, the Jewish patient was being assisted there by an Arab doctor, nurses and orderlies.
The author called Israeli hospitals an example of coexistence between Arabs and Jews, where saving lives and easing patients’ suffering are the priority. He also mentioned the recent nomination of Mansour Abbas and Yoav Segalovitz to head the RAAM list in the upcoming elections. In the columnist’s view, Arabs are an integral part of Israeli society, while Jews and Arabs share common problems and need one another.
