Commander of the German Air Force Names Potential Targets in Russia in the Event of an Escalation – The Telegraph

The commander of the German Air Force stated that NATO is prepared to launch strikes against specific targets within Russia in response to a possible act of aggression. According to him, the Alliance is considering various response scenarios, but he emphasized their purely defensive nature in the event of further escalation of the conflict.

This was stated by Lieutenant General Holger Neumann, commander of the German Air Force.

In the event of a Russian attack on any member of the Alliance, the following would be targeted:

  • Kaliningrad—Russia’s strategic exclave, surrounded on all sides by NATO countries;
  • The Kola Peninsula—where Moscow has concentrated its nuclear weapons;
  • St. Petersburg – the home port of key naval forces;
  • the Black Sea basin—where Russia’s Black Sea Fleet operates.

Neumann stated that the Luftwaffe is ready to act immediately.

“If someone calls me right now and says we have this situation here, we must be ready right now—and we are ready,” he said.

According to him, in response to aggression, Germany will deploy all its forces—both its own and those of its NATO allies.

“We will use everything we have in Germany, in the air force, as well as in NATO, to protect our country, our values, our people, and our alliance,” the commander added.

Neumann emphasized: there are no “zones of varying security” within the Alliance. An attack on Estonia would receive the same response as an attack on London.

“It must be clear that there are no zones of differing security, that NATO is NATO, down to the last centimeter,” he stated.

This is particularly important for the Baltic states and the Far North, where there has recently been an escalation by Russia—drone attacks and other provocations.

Lieutenant General Neumann reminded that in the event of an armed conflict, Russia would face the air forces of 32 NATO member states at once, according to The Telegraph.
