Congressman Rick Crawford says Americans are tired of diesel prices — The Hill

In the United States, Republican Congressman Rick Crawford of Arkansas said that Americans are feeling fatigued by rising diesel fuel prices amid the war with Iran. He said this on NewsNation’s The Hill Sunday program, The Hill reports.

According to Crawford, the increase in diesel prices is particularly significant because the entire supply chain runs on this fuel. He noted that higher diesel prices affect the cost of other goods and make Americans more concerned.

Diesel rises to nearly $6.50

According to the American Automobile Association, AAA, the average price of diesel fuel in the United States has reached nearly $6.50 per gallon. This is about 85 cents more than a month ago and $2.80 more than a year ago.

Fuel prices overall remain high amid the conflict, which has been ongoing for nearly seven months. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea has declined due to restrictions by the Iranian military and Iran-backed Houthi rebels, respectively.

Debate over fuel exports

President Donald Trump this week supported a ban on diesel fuel exports. At the same time, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that such a policy “definitely does not work.”

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told The Hill that a full 90-day export ban could lower prices in the short term. However, according to him, refineries could react differently to the subsequent situation.

Crawford, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, reiterated Trump’s position: economic discomfort is worth it to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
