Kubilius noted that Ukraine has the strongest army in Europe

European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently the most powerful army in Europe, and perhaps even in the world. In his view, Ukraine should become an integral part of the European security and defense system. He emphasized that the experience gained by the Ukrainian military during a full-scale war is of great importance for strengthening the security of the entire European continent.

European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius made this statement at a meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius, Radio Liberty reports.

The Best Army

"Ukraine has the best army in Europe and, perhaps, in the world… It will be difficult to understand if we in Europe do not view the integration of Ukraine’s best European—and perhaps global—military force into our European security system as a vital interest," Kubilius noted.

Putin’s Chaotic Attacks

He also attributed Russian dictator Putin’s “chaotic attacks” to Ukraine seizing the initiative on the battlefield, and the Russian leadership’s desire to reduce the level of European support for Ukraine.

"The more Ukraine succeeds, the more nervous and desperate Putin becomes. Putin’s goal is to scare people in this region and in Europe so that we might stop supporting Ukraine. Our response is not to back down, but to redouble our efforts: increase defense spending and production, support the eastern flank, and support Ukraine," the European Commissioner noted.

European Defense Union

He also emphasized the need to promote Ukraine’s membership in the European Defense Union until its accession to NATO is agreed upon, and since joining the EU “may take more time.”
