Larry David, the American comedian and creator of the TV series “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” commented on the breakdown of his friendship with attorney Alan Dershowitz. He stated that his former friend “made a deal with the devil” when he became Donald Trump’s lawyer, according to The Guardian.

David and Dershowitz had been friends and neighbors on Martha’s Vineyard for many years. In 2021, reports emerged of a public altercation between them at a grocery store, during which David called Dershowitz “disgusting.” Dershowitz later confirmed this account of the incident in a comment to The New Yorker and said that David refused to speak to him.

In a new profile of Dershowitz published by The Atlantic, David spoke out about the incident for the first time. “There’s a lot of confrontation on my show, but in real life—rarely. And only when I think I can hold my own in a fight. That’s where the altercation with Dershowitz came from,” he said.

Dershowitz also told The Atlantic that he was upset that David didn’t reach out to him after the death last year of his son Elon, who died of a stroke at the age of 64. David replied that he had begun to feel sympathy for Dershowitz, “certainly because of his son,” and regretted not reaching out to him.

The next day, David contacted The Atlantic again and added that Dershowitz “has only himself to blame” because he “made a deal with the devil.” The comedian also speculated that “the devil hasn’t said a word to him since the impeachment.”

Dershowitz, a former Harvard Law School professor, has at various times served on the legal teams of Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, O. J. Simpson, and Harvey Weinstein. In 2020, he was a member of Trump’s defense team during the president’s first impeachment trial. In April, Dershowitz announced he was switching to the Republican Party after decades of supporting the Democrats.
