Latvia has issued a strong response to Russia over Lavrov's statements

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a Russian diplomat and reacted sharply to Sergey Lavrov’s statements regarding the country’s alleged involvement in drone attacks on Russia. Officials in Riga called these claims false and emphasized that the Baltic states had not granted any authorization for such actions, according to Delfi.

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires and lodged an official protest over statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He had previously claimed that Latvia had allegedly allowed its airspace to be used for drone attacks on Russian territory.

In Riga, these statements were called outright lies, and officials emphasized that none of the Baltic countries had granted permission to use their airspace or territory for attacks. “The Ministry emphasizes that none of the Baltic states has granted permission to use its territory or airspace to carry out drone attacks on targets in Russia,” the Latvian Foreign Ministry stated.

The ministry also noted that the official positions of the Baltic states regarding such accusations have already been conveyed to the Russian side on multiple occasions during diplomatic contacts in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius. Separately, the Latvian side protested the actions of Russian authorities in the Tomsk region, where memorials to victims of political repression—including monuments to repressed peoples—were dismantled.

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such actions by Russia reflect its attitude toward the Soviet totalitarian past and require explanations from Moscow, as they concern the memory of victims of mass repression and human rights violations.

The Latvian government also decided to donate electric generators worth a total of 1.2 million euros to Ukraine.
