An avalanche in Austria claimed the life of a German snowboarder
A snowboarder from Germany died in an avalanche in the Austrian region of Tyrol.
Local police reported this on Thursday.
The 49-year-old man was at the Kühtai ski resort in western Austria on Wednesday with two other friends when the avalanche occurred.
According to police, two of the three snowboarders were buried under the snow. One of them was rescued because his head was visible above the snow, but the 49-year-old man from Berlin was buried by the avalanche.
According to police, it took more than two hours before rescuers were able to locate the snowboarders, who were not equipped with avalanche rescue gear.
