Iran's leader has threatened the U.S. with trouble in the Persian Gulf
Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the United States can no longer count on the security of its military bases in the Persian Gulf region. According to officials in Tehran, in the event of further escalation, U.S. facilities in the region could become vulnerable to new threats and retaliatory actions by Iran.
In a written statement released on May 26, Khamenei announced the formation of a “new order” in the Middle East and the world. “The United States will no longer have a safe haven for its actions or for establishing military bases in the region, and with each passing day, it is moving further away from its former status,” he said.
The Iranian leader also made harsh remarks about Israel. According to Khamenei, Israel and its leadership “are approaching the final stages of their pitiful existence.”
CNN notes that more than ten weeks have passed since Mojtaba Khamenei was announced as Iran’s new Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. At the same time, Iranians have yet to see him make any public appearances—he has limited himself to written statements.
