Green Party leader Zack Polanski wants to run for Starmer’s seat
Green Party leader Zack Polanski said he wants to become his party’s candidate in the by-election in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency in central London. The seat became vacant after Keir Starmer resigned as a member of the House of Commons this week. This was reported by Politico Europe.
Candidate selection
Polanski told the Camden New Journal that he had lived and worked in this community for many years, knew it well and would like to represent it in parliament. However, he still has to receive a nomination from local Green Party members. The candidate selection is expected to take place next week.
The date of the by-election has not yet been set. Starmer explained his resignation from Parliament by his desire to devote more attention to international affairs. Earlier this year, he stepped down as prime minister after losing support within his own party, and Andy Burnham became his successor.

In the 2024 election, Starmer retained the Holborn and St Pancras seat with a majority of 11,572 votes. At the time, he faced strong competition from an independent left-wing candidate and the Green Party.
Polanski became the party’s leader last year. Since 2021, he has been a member of the London Assembly, which scrutinises the work of London Mayor Sadiq Khan. The politician said that if elected, he would defend voters’ interests and represent people who struggle to pay their bills.
