A Ryanair plane made an emergency return to Greece due to an engine malfunction
A Ryanair passenger plane, which was flying from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Munich, was forced to return to its departure airport due to a serious technical problem.
During the flight, one of the aircraft’s engines malfunctioned, after which the crew decided to return to Greece. As a result of the incident, one passenger was injured, but the plane landed safely.
The pilots detected the problem while the plane was flying over North Macedonia and decided to return to Thessaloniki, as they were unable to fix the malfunction in flight.
According to reports, during the descent, a piece of the damaged engine broke off and struck a cabin window, causing minor injuries to a passenger.
After the crew issued a distress signal, emergency procedures were activated at Macedonia Airport in Thessaloniki. Firefighters, ambulance crews, police, and other emergency services were put on standby, but the plane landed safely and was moved to a designated area of the airport.
Four passengers were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Most of them received medical attention and were discharged, while one remained for further examination.
Ryanair dispatched a replacement aircraft to transport most of the passengers to Munich. The relevant aviation authorities are investigating the cause of the engine failure.
