Lithuania, Poland and Latvia ready to jointly close their borders with Belarus
Lithuania, Poland and Latvia have expressed their willingness to discuss the possibility of jointly closing their borders with Belarus if necessary, particularly in light of the current situation involving Belarus.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said that her counterparts in Poland and Latvia had confirmed their readiness for such talks. However, she noted that this scenario is not relevant at the moment, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
The potential need for such measures is linked to rising regional tensions, especially concerning migration challenges.
The Lithuanian government plans to examine the issue in the near future in order to prepare for possible actions. Should border closure become necessary, Lithuania will consult with the prime ministers of neighbouring countries.
It should be recalled that Lithuania has requested assistance from its partners due to consular difficulties in China.
