Lithuania has denied claims that it is preparing to deport Russian-speaking residents
The Lithuanian State Security Department (SSD) has rejected claims by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Baltic states are allegedly preparing a mass deportation of the Russian-speaking population. The agency called these claims yet another propaganda campaign by the Kremlin.
The Lithuanian intelligence agency stated that such reports are part of Russia’s information war.
“This is yet another propaganda attack by Russia against the Baltic states, aimed at undermining confidence in their democratic foundations, to divide society along ethnic lines, and to discredit these staunch supporters of Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor on the international stage,” the SSD emphasized.
The agency also noted that this is not the first time Russian propaganda has spread false information about the alleged deportation of Russian-speaking residents from the Baltic states.
“This can be viewed as part of Russia’s long-standing—though recently intensified—propaganda narrative regarding the alleged systematic violation of the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic states,” the security service emphasized.
Earlier, Grigory Lukyantsev, director of the Department for Multilateral Cooperation on Human Rights at the Russian Foreign Ministry, claimed that the authorities in the Baltic states were allegedly preparing a mass deportation of Russian-speaking residents.
“The Baltic states are openly preparing for the mass deportation of Russian-speaking residents, presumably hoping to finally resolve the ‘Russian question’ and the unprecedented—especially for the 21st century— problem of mass statelessness on their territories,” claimed the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Lithuanian State Security Department emphasized that such statements are untrue and are part of a Russian disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting the Baltic states and their support for Ukraine.
This was reported by the Lithuanian State Security Department, according to Delfi.
As a reminder, Lithuania is preparing additional contingency plans in case of possible provocations by Russia. The country’s Ministry of Defense reported that security at critical infrastructure sites has already been strengthened and preparations for potential threats are underway.
Lithuania is ready to defend the Suwalki Corridor and will not allow its territory to be occupied again.
