Madyar received assurances from the Hungarian president regarding the formation of a new government — Telex
Hungarian President Tamás Szujok has officially informed Péter Magyar, leader of the opposition Tisza Party, that he will appoint him to head the next cabinet.
Telex reports this.
The first face-to-face meeting between the head of state and the leader of the winning party marked the beginning of the transfer of power in the country.
“The President of the Republic has informed me that he will ask me to form the new government,” Magyar told reporters following the talks in Budapest.
Political forces plan to begin active consultations as early as this Friday, April 17.
The main topics of discussion will be the distribution of responsibilities among parliamentary committees and preparations for the opening of the session of the National Assembly of the new convocation.
Under current law, the president must convene the inaugural session of parliament no later than May 12.
However, according to preliminary information, Szujok plans to schedule the first meeting for approximately May 4, when he will officially put the prime minister’s nomination to a vote.
Despite the mandate he received, Péter Magyar made a radical demand of the current president.
He called on Tamás Shuyok to voluntarily resign, arguing that society is seeking a complete change in the political regime, not just personnel changes.
“I received a response that he would consider this issue,” noted the future head of government.
Mátyás added that if the president refuses to step down, he will utilize all available legal mechanisms of the new parliament to initiate this procedure.
