North Korea is rapidly expanding its capacity to produce nuclear warheads — Reuters

North Korea has likely significantly expanded its nuclear arsenal capabilities by stepping up operations at key strategic facilities.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi made this statement during his visit to Seoul, Reuters reports.

According to the head of the international agency, unusually high activity has been observed at the 5-megawatt reactor, the reprocessing facility, and the light-water reactor.

These indicators suggest that Pyongyang has moved into a phase of intensive production of materials for weapons of mass destruction.

“All of this points to a very serious increase in the DPRK’s nuclear weapons production capabilities,” Rafael Grossi stated.

He also added that the North Korean regime’s current capabilities are already estimated at several dozen ready-to-use warheads.

Of particular concern is the construction of new facilities that resemble uranium enrichment plants in their characteristics.

Analysis of external features and infrastructure indicates that the DPRK aims to significantly increase its production of weapons-grade uranium in the near future.

IAEA data is corroborated by recent satellite imagery provided by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
