Mátyás will continue Orbán's policy toward Slovakia – Fico

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico discussed the resumption of operations on the Druzhba oil pipeline and a joint lawsuit against the EU’s RePowerEU program with Hungary’s incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar.

Fico announced this on X, noting that since Magyar has not yet officially taken office as Hungary’s prime minister, he was able to comment on these issues in general terms.

Despite their shared stance on Russian resources, the leaders have differences on historical issues, particularly regarding the Beneš Decrees, which stripped ethnic Hungarians of their property and citizenship after World War II.

“However, it became clear from the conversation that Péter Magyar’s priority in Slovak-Hungarian relations is and will remain the Beneš Decrees, on which we have fundamentally different positions,” Fico wrote.

Fico invited the leader of the “Tisa” party to visit Slovakia after his official inauguration as prime minister, which will take place following a working meeting at the EU summit in Brussels. The joint fight against EU energy restrictions remains a priority for both countries, which are trying to maintain access to cheap raw materials from Russia.

Mátyás also commented on the conversation.

“I made it clear to him that we can discuss any political issue only on the condition that Slovakia repeals the law that threatens Hungarians in the High Lands with imprisonment,” Magyar stated in his official address.

Mátyás spoke out against Ukraine’s rapid accession to the EU.

Péter Mádor is the first cousin of the former president of Hungary and the grandson of a judge.

Mátyás called on Orbán’s puppets to resign.
