A Secret Service agent was wounded in Washington during the assassination attempt on Trump
A U.S. Secret Service agent was injured and hospitalized following a shooting that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., which was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump.
This was reported by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and U.S. Attorney Janine Pirro at a joint briefing.
According to the mayor, an armed man broke through a Secret Service checkpoint in the lobby of the hotel where the event was taking place. Secret Service agents stopped the attacker.
“At this time, we have no reason to believe that anyone else was involved in the incident,” Bowser said.
One of the agents was injured and taken to a hospital, where he is receiving medical care. The suspect was also taken to the hospital for examination.
Prosecutor Janine Pirro reported that he faces two charges—using a firearm during a violent crime and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.
District of Columbia Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll stated that the attacker was armed with a rifle, a pistol, and several knives.
According to him, the man attacked a checkpoint and attempted to move toward the ballroom where the U.S. president and members of the administration were located.
“We cannot comment on specific motives at this time. However, we are continuing our investigation,” Carroll noted.
According to U.S. media reports, the suspect is 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen from California. He has a degree in mechanical engineering, worked in education, and was involved in video game development.
It is also reported that in 2024, he made a small political donation to the Democratic Party’s campaign committee.
