Macron responded to Trump's criticism of France's role in the war with Iran

During his visit to Tokyo, French President Emmanuel Macron rejected accusations by U.S. President Donald Trump that he had not provided sufficient support for operations in the Middle East.

This was reported by BFMTV.

Macron emphasized that the U.S. did not consult with Paris before launching military action against Iran, so France’s absence from this coalition has been a logical and consistent position from the very first day of the conflict. This was his response to Trump’s complaints that France had banned flights carrying military equipment for Israel over its territory.

The French leader called for immediate de-escalation and the resumption of the diplomatic process, calling negotiations the only way to end hostilities. Macron criticized the strategy of prolonged bombing without establishing a clear political framework for the region. According to him, France, together with Japan and other partners from Europe and Asia, is ready to help ensure civilian transit through the Strait of Hormuz, but exclusively through diplomatic, not military, means.

Tensions among NATO allies are rising due to Trump’s demands that Alliance members join efforts to unblock the strait, which is controlled by Tehran. France’s position reflects a broader skepticism among European capitals regarding unilateral actions by Washington and Israel. While the U.S. is stepping up pressure on Iranian infrastructure, Paris insists on a “framework of close cooperation” and international law as the basis for resolving the crisis. The situation remains tense ahead of Trump’s announced late-night speech, which could determine the future of U.S. participation in NATO.

U.S. President Donald Trump reacted sharply to France’s decision to close its airspace to American military transport aircraft. The planes were headed to Israel, but France did not allow them to fly over its territory.

Trump commented onthe possibility of redirecting weapons intended for Ukraine to the Middle East.
