Macron traveled to the area of a massive forest fire near Paris
On July 16, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit the area of a massive wildfire in Fontainebleau, south of Paris, which firefighters have been unable to contain for several days.
It is reported that the fire has engulfed approximately 2,050 hectares of land. During his visit, the head of state will meet with local officials and personally thank the firefighters and everyone involved in the relief efforts.
The wildfire broke out on the evening of July 12. By the end of the first night, the area affected by the fire had nearly doubled. About a thousand local residents and tourists were evacuated due to the disaster.
Currently, about a thousand firefighters are working at the scene. To reinforce the rescue team, 120 military personnel will also be deployed to the fire area on Thursday.
The day before, law enforcement officials detained two people suspected of being involved in starting the fire. One of the suspects is an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter.
