According to Elon Musk, a degree from a prestigious university does not indicate a high level of knowledge among its graduates. The businessman believes that people often judge others’ skills and knowledge solely by their degrees—specifically, by the name of the university they attended. Musk believes that such assessments are often misleading.
Elon Musk stated that he did not attend Harvard, while his employees received higher education at such institutions. “Don’t confuse schooling with education. I didn’t go to Harvard, but the people who work for me did,” he said.
Thus, the entrepreneur believes that education is merely a foundation, as true experience and professionalism—that is, real education—can be gained in real life. Specifically, through solving real-world problems, reading, and constant curiosity.
