Medvedev commented on Navrotsky's move, prompting a response from the Polish Foreign Ministry

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski drew President Karol Nawrocki’s attention to the fact that his decision had been viewed positively in Russia. This refers to the situation surrounding the revocation of an award by the President of Ukraine. Officials in Warsaw emphasize that Moscow’s reaction is telling.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski publicly drew President Karol Nawrocki’s attention to how Russia had reacted to his decision regarding the award linked to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The discussion arose after Moscow commented positively on this move by the Polish president, which immediately caused a political stir in Warsaw.

Sikorski referred to a post by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, who stated that such a decision had “finally” been made and presented it in the harsh tone typical of Russian rhetoric. His comments also included offensive remarks about the Ukrainian president, which only drew more attention to the situation. “There is support, President Navrotsky,” Sikorski responded ironically to Medvedev’s statements, effectively hinting that such a reaction from the Kremlin is telling.

In Polish political circles, this episode became yet another element in a broader discussion about how decisions regarding Poland-Ukraine relations might be perceived in Russia and what signals this sends to international partners. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced this in Kharkiv.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki decided to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle due to his disagreement with naming one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Heroes of the UPA.”
