The mayor of Paris responded sharply to Trump's remarks about Sharia law

Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire responded to U.S. President Donald Trump following his statement about the alleged spread of Sharia law in the French capital. Grégoire stated that Paris does not need lectures from the U.S. president and called the French capital one of the world’s cities that has much to be proud of.

The controversy arose following Trump’s interview on the conservative talk show *The Glenn Beck Show*. The journalist asked the U.S. president about a possible ban on Sharia law in the United States. In response, Trump said that, in his opinion, Islamic law has allegedly already become part of everyday life in some European capitals. “You go to London, you go to Paris—and it’s almost like a second way of life. It’s ridiculous,” Trump said.

He also stated that he “would definitely ban Sharia law” in the U.S. According to the U.S. president, the government must counter its application wherever it is found. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire responded to these remarks. He wrote on social media platform X that the French capital does not need such lectures. “Paris does not need lectures from a head of state who deploys racist units to persecute those who sustain his country,” Grégoire stated.

The mayor did not specify in his post which units he was referring to. At the same time, his words were an obvious response to the Trump administration’s domestic policies and his statements regarding Paris. Grégoire also emphasized that the world’s major capitals remain open to people. “Paris, London, New York—cities of the world, cities that are proud of themselves,” wrote the mayor of Paris.

Thus, Trump’s statement about Sharia law in European capitals drew a sharp response from the mayor of Paris. Grégoire effectively rejected the U.S. president’s claim and emphasized that Paris has no intention of accepting lectures on what the city should be like. Gregoire wrote about this on his page on social media platform X.

A federal judge denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s motion to transfer a New York state criminal case involving hush money to federal court. The case concluded with Trump being found guilty in state court in Manhattan.
