Merz and Trump aligned their positions on Ukraine ahead of the NATO summit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump during his return from China. The two discussed the war in Ukraine and coordinated their positions ahead of the NATO summit.

Merz announced this on social media platform X.

According to him, he and the U.S. president agreed that Iran must immediately come to the negotiating table and open the Strait of Hormuz.

Merz also stated that Tehran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

“We also discussed a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine and coordinated our positions ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara. The U.S. and Germany are strong partners in a strong NATO,” the German chancellor said.

As a reminder, Merz reacted to Russia’s massive shelling of Ukraine.

Russia cynically called the massive attack on Ukraine a retaliatory strike

Due to the Russian attack on the Lviv region, over 21,000 customers were left without power

As a reminder, overnight, the Air Defense Forces managed to neutralize 693 aerial targets, including 41 missiles and 652 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine is not accidental. In this way, Russian leader Vladimir Putin is attempting to divert the world’s attention from international events, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China.
