Merz criticized the Israeli minister's statements regarding the killings in Gaza

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz strongly condemned remarks made by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir regarding the targeted killings of Palestinians in Gaza.

According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Sebastian Gille, the chancellor “strongly condemns these inhumane calls,” which violate international law. In Merz’s view, they are unacceptable.

The far-right Israeli minister Ben-Gvir had previously called for the killing of several dozen Palestinians in Gaza every night. He stated that “30 to 40 people should be eliminated every night.” And this is not just about eliminating those who pose a direct threat. “There are people there who are not worthy of life. They should not live. They aren’t even human,” said Israel’s Minister of National Security.

Similar statements by Ben-Gvir and other Israeli politicians have drawn sharp international criticism in the past.

At the International Court of Justice in The Hague, these statements were cited as potential evidence of Israel’s genocidal intent. Israel rejects accusations of committing genocide in Gaza.

This was reported by Spiegel.
