A migrant from Vietnam pretended to be a teenager in order to obtain asylum in Britain
In the United Kingdom, a court ruled that a migrant from Vietnam who had sought asylum—claiming to be 15–16 years old—was of legal age, even though he was 22 at the time of his arrival in the country.
British authorities became suspicious after reviewing his TikTok account, where the information posted indicated that he was significantly older. In court, he explained that the expensive smartphone had allegedly been a gift from neighbors and that he had entered the date of birth by mistake during registration; however, the court found this version of events implausible.
The Immigration Tribunal confirmed that the man was born in 2002, ruled him to be of legal age, and ordered him to reimburse Derby City Council for its legal costs.
Despite this, his application for asylum in the United Kingdom is still under review.
