Ghanaian Minister Ayariga calls for stronger government-church cooperation on sanitation
Ghana’s Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called for stronger cooperation between the government, the Church and other stakeholders to address sanitation issues and protect the environment in the country. MyJoyOnline reports.
Meeting of Christian leaders
Ayariga published the appeal on Facebook after attending the opening of the Second Ecumenical Convention alongside the Christian Council of Ghana and Christian leaders. The event was held at the Baptist International Worship Centre under the theme “Focusing on Transformation through Care for Creation.”
According to the minister, the convention provided a platform to reflect on the Church’s role in strengthening peace, responsible citizenship, environmental stewardship and sustainable national development.

Shared responsibility
Ayariga noted that the Church has made a significant contribution to the development of education, healthcare and the social sector in Ghana. In his view, this underscores the importance of deepening the partnership between the government and religious organizations.
The minister stressed that creating a cleaner and healthier Ghana is a shared responsibility requiring collective action. He also reaffirmed his readiness to work with religious organizations, traditional leaders, the private sector, civil society and other parties for national development.
