Israeli Defense Minister Katz calls Erdoğan a paper sultan — Jerusalem Post

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States, called him a “paper sultan.” Katz wrote this in a post on X, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Katz’s statements

The Israeli minister accused Erdoğan of financing and supporting Hamas. He also said that the Turkish president allegedly seeks to restore the Ottoman Empire.

Katz said that Erdoğan had signed the Mecca Agreement on the defense of Saudi Arabia. According to him, when the Houthis were firing missiles at Mecca, the Turkish president did not fulfill these commitments.

The minister called on Erdoğan to stop confronting Israel and said that Israel is capable of defending itself. Katz also mentioned the Kurds and people whom, he claimed, Erdoğan continues to oppress in Turkey.

Erdoğan’s speech at the UN

During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Erdoğan said that the organization is no longer capable of fulfilling its task of preserving peace and called for reform of the UN Security Council.

He also condemned the situation in Gaza, called on countries that do not recognize the Palestinian state to reconsider their position, and urged increased pressure on Israel to end the war in Gaza.
