Mohtaba Khamenei Welcomes Start of Talks Between Iran and the U.S. — Ynet

Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has officially authorized direct talks with the Donald Trump administration.

This was reported by diplomatic sources cited by the Israeli publication Ynet, noting that Tehran is seeking to resolve the conflict as quickly as possible.

Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi conveyed this position of the Islamic Republic’s top leadership during talks with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

This decision marked the first significant signal toward de-escalation since large-scale hostilities began in February 2026.

“I am here after we received the consent and blessing of Mojtaba Khamenei to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, provided our conditions are met,” the publication quotes the Iranian diplomat as telling the American side.

As a reminder, the U.S. and Israel have different objectives in the war with Iran.

The U.S. and Israel also attacked residential neighborhoods in Tabriz, Iran.
