Moghalu rejects nomination to Atiku’s campaign council — Premium Times Nigeria

In Nigeria, former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu has rejected his nomination to the campaign council of Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress candidate in the 2027 general election. Premium Times Nigeria reports.

Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, said he had not agreed to be included in the council. According to him, Atiku did not consult him or seek his consent before making his name public as part of the body.

Reasons for the refusal

The former candidate stressed that he is not part of Atiku’s policy team, either officially, informally, or in an advisory capacity. He also said that he left party politics in Nigeria in 2022 and is not a member or supporter of any political party.

Moghalu said he would continue to serve as president of the nonpartisan think tank and executive academy IGETAfrica, as well as CEO of Sogato Strategies, a consulting company in geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy. He noted that his commitment to Nigeria’s progress does not entail party affiliation.

Composition of the campaign council

Atiku nominated Moghalu to the political unit of the campaign council, which is to be headed by former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatudeen. Senator representing Abia Central Austin Akobundu was appointed the council’s director-general and campaign director.

The council is to be chaired by former Borno State governorship candidate Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as his deputy.
