Moldova is preparing a note of protest to Russia over polling stations in Transnistria
Moldova intends to lodge a protest with Russia over plans to open polling stations in Transnistria for voting in the elections to the Russian State Duma.
Moldova’s Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi made this statement on September 2. According to him, Chisinau has allowed Russia to open only one polling station—on the grounds of the Russian Embassy.
Popșoi emphasized that any other polling stations opened without the consent of Moldova’s constitutional authorities would be regarded as an unfriendly move.
Earlier, the leader of the unrecognized Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, stated that Russia plans to open 17 polling stations in the region in September. According to him, about 220,000 Russian citizens live there.
