Cattle farmer Darryl Young found guilty of triple murder in Australia
A jury in Townsville, Queensland, found 63-year-old cattle farmer Darryl Valroy Young guilty of murdering three neighbours near the gate of his Shannonvale Station cattle property in Bogie, northern Queensland.
Three people died near the property gate
Mervyn Schwarz, his wife Marie Schwarz, and her son Graham Tighe were found shot dead near the property gate on August 4, 2022. According to ABC News, Ross Tighe, Graham Tighe's brother, was also wounded in the same incident. He escaped by car and reported the attack.
Verdict after a three-week trial
At the start of proceedings in the Supreme Court in Townsville, Young pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The court heard evidence for three weeks, while the parties' closing arguments lasted two days.

The prosecution said that Young believed his neighbours were responsible for stealing his cattle and demanded a meeting at the place and time where the shooting occurred. After 15 hours of deliberations over three days, the jury unanimously found him guilty on three counts of murder.
However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the attempted murder charge. Judge Christopher Johnston is to provide them with further directions to continue deliberations on that charge.
